An interview with Jussi (Kurwa Doktor); vocalist of Cannibal Accident (grindcore) and Axegressor (thrash metal).
Cannibal Accident is ready to conquer Europe on their upcoming tour ( 22.07. – 31.07.).
Please, introduce your band Cannibal Accident to our readers, and how the band was founded?
Kurwa Doktor: The founding members Kolkka and Lenets were drinking at a local club where some grindcore bands were playing, back in 2007 or something. They liked the bands but thought something was missing: those catchy mosh parts that you can find from f.ex. old Carcass and Napalm Death albums. They decided to start to play sick grindcore but with catchy mosh / thrash parts also. Cannibal Accident was ass-born. Cannibal Accident plays neck-breaking, brainripping grindcore / deathmetal / punk / d-beat / whatever sounds great.
How long have you know each other? How did you meet?
KD: We have known each other for a long time, Kolkka and Lenets since the end of 80's. We have all played together at the same events with our previous bands, so it's a nice little merry-go-round lineup we have here, haha.
Tell us about themes and inspiration in your songs, where do you find inspiration? What inspired you to make music together?
KD: Some themes and topics are of course cannibalism and its many wonderful side effects, sick perversions, social issues, urge to kill all everything etc. basic normal thoughts. Inspiration comes like a brown wind from behind and musically we are not trying to invent the wheel again, we just play the old school grindcore á la old Napalm Death and twist it with our own madness. The frames and basic riffs for songs are 99% done by Kolkka, and the others add their own parts and leftovers on that skeleton to make the song a succulent, fleshy cannibal zombie.
What does mean „Ritual Paprika“ stuff, and where the idea came from?
KD: Ritual Paprika is grilled corncob. No explanations.
You had already some gigs and tours outside of your country. How is to play abroad, and how is to play in Finland?
KD: With CA we have only played in Estonia a couple of times.
Personally speaking, touring with Axegressor, I think the gigs abroad have got more crazy people involved in the concert, more energy etc. I think it's just because of the Finnish mentality, and people don't get into moshpits etc. very easily unless they really, really like the band or are very, very drunk. :)
With Axegressor, I think our best show audience-wise was in Sofia, Bulgaria, and with Cannibal Accident at Tuska festival two years ago. So, the atmosphere at each gig depends totally on the situation and the craziness & activity of the audience.
What was the most bizarre/weirdest thing that happened while you were on stage?
KD: When I had half a carrot stuck up between my butt cheeks for the most of a CA show and in latter part of the concert when we played Vegenocide, I pulled it out and offered to a girl in front row. She took a bite with no hesitation. I did the same thing at another gig and then two girls took a bite. There's a bit of a challenge for the next event, not because of the nature of this action but to get three girls in the front row of a CA show. ;)
What are you listening to lately?
KD: Lasten Hautausmaa, Germ, Batushka to name a few.
And now, what kind of music you don't like to listen at all ?
KD: Reggae or hiphop. Especially Finnish. Goddammit...
You have one more band, Axegressor (we already met the Axegressors). Tell us more about that band, and do you have maybe some other bands / projects?
KD: Well, we are slowly writing material for the next album and just taking it easy otherwise at the moment. I don't have any other bands, except Morjens, but that's too cult to talk about.
Are you known with croatian metal scene? Is there any croatian metal band you like?
KD: I know the old thrash cult Devastation and a gothic metal band Ashes You Leave, but that's basically all. Now when I checked, I have a cd of a band called Kerovnian but I don't have a clue what kind of music they play...
Recommend us some metal band from Finland.
KD: Torture Killer.
What are your hobies, except music? What are you doing in everyday life?
KD: Basketball. And the things that you ask about in the next questions, hehe.
You work at the CD shop. How the things are there, do people buy music nowadys, or the internet overflooded it?
KD: People will always buy music in physical format, yet the amount has of course increased significantly during the last 10 years. Besides cd's we sell a lot of vinyl, also second hand cd/lp and we have a huge stock of different shirts and other merchandise in our webstore. www.recordshopx.com - free ad, ok? :)
You organise gigs in Finland. How is the scene over there, do people support underground bands?
KD: The scene is a crying, dying whore. We do what we can to keep the underground metal alive, but as everywhere, there's not so many people going to smaller bands' (or even "mid-range") shows anymore - compared to the situation 10-15 years ago. Metal never dies, of course, but sometimes we have to keep the flame alive with a smaller, more dedicated horde.
Some message to your fans here?
KD: Bring your own carrots to shows!
